Course Overview
Three days of active learning where participants will engage with innovative and transformative methods and tools to build their patient safety tool kit so they will be prepared to address system issues that create risks for patients, staff and the organization.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course Participants should be able to:
Use a systems integration (SI) and system focused debriefing (SFD) approach with simulation to proactively identify and mitigate systems issues including patient safety threats and operational deficiencies.
o Participants will engage in theory and learning activities to increase familiarity and confidence in using the approach, course tools, and measurement and evaluation strategies.
o Demonstrate ability by facilitating SI Simulation and SFD for an issue of their choice
Topics covered over the three days include: targeted project approaches, Systems thinking, Patient Safety from a Systems Perspective, Facilitation, Co-facilitation, Psychological safety, Change Theory, Phases of Developing and Examining a Simulation based system issue, Feedback, and Measurement and Evaluation
How Will You Learn?
Blended Learning Modality: Incudes Lectures, Small and large group discussions, Expert coaching and modelling, Role Play and Simulation based learning
o Each module will provide theory and learning activities to ensure participants have the opportunity to apply theory in real practice like contexts
